rental comes to India

India is one of the largest producer of films in the world, and films constitute an important part in the entertainment and leisure activities of most of the Indians.

The home video segment is showing exponential growth with the growing popularity of DVD and VCD formats.

The Indian consumer durable industry estimates the DVD players user base to cross the ten million mark by next year, whereas the VCD players user base has already crossed the ten million mark. This is due to the falling prices of branded players from Philips, LG, Samsung, Sansui, etc. and cheap imports from China.

The growing user base of DVD / VCD players will only increase the demand for software i.e. DVDs & VCDs.

However, the rental business in India, presently is essentially a corner store operation at a nascent stage.

There is no professional, national chain renting entertainment software viz. DVDs, VCDs, & Games.

We plan to change this by setting up India’s first branded, professional, national chain, renting entertainment software and getting transparency and accountability to the business which will change the manner in which the rental business is presently done.

In future, all video and games rentals in India will be like this. But for now, well, we are the first and only one with the first-mover and head-start advantage.

Play is scheduled to be launched in the third quarter of the current calendar year.
